Traditionally, December starts with a visit to the STM Innovation Fair, in London. Our first encounter with publishers was 3 years ago and, since then, it is a tradition to join the meeting. This year again, and as one of the ‘innovators’, meaning we had the opportunity to present Global Campus on stage and the availability of our own Global Campus table to have our meetings.
The day started with saying ‘hi’ to lots of familiar faces and some coffee before the official program started with a keynote of prof. Rachael Gooberman-Hill. The talk focused on the role of trust and integrity using smallpox on the Shetland islands as an example. Before there were vaccines available, a local inventor developed a method, that practically everyone on the island used to protect themselves. They didn’t take it because of randomized controlled trials, but because they trusted the guy. There is a critical for trust in our day to day interaction with other people, but also in our interaction with institutions like academia. A great keynote to open the STM Innovation and Integrity days.
After the lighting talks, that included our pitch about trusting reviewers you can find with Global Campus, the floor opened for conversations and our presentation clearly made a mark. Apart from our scheduled meetings, a lot of people stopped by for some questions, demo and in depth conversation. We nearly missed lunch because of it.
After the lunchbreak it was time for the Vesalius award, this year won by Profectus Academy. Congratulations to them! With lots of meetings in the rest of the afternoon and a valuable panel discussion about startups, growth and partnerships, it was, once again, a great fair to attend this year.
Thanks to everyone for the valuable conversations and connections, we are looking forward meeting you again in person in 2026!
